Treatment of lymphostasis (lymphedema) of the lower extremities Kyiv

Lymphostasis, lymphedema of the lower extremities can be divided into primary and secondary.

Primary lymphedema occurs either at birth or during the growth period of the body. Congenital – develops from birth. Early – begins in childhood. Late – begins in adulthood.

Secondary lymphedema occurs after surgery (usually oncological – when lymph nodes are removed to prevent metastases of the primary tumor. This is oncogynecology, oncoproctology, oncourology, etc.) or after radiation therapy. Lymphedema can occur after infectious diseases, such as erysipelas. There are many other different causes of lymphedema.

Lymphostasis of the lower extremities can be distinguished by the following signs: absence of lymphatic vessels and lymph nodes (Aplasia), very thin, insufficiently large lymph nodes (Hypoplasia), excessively dilated lymphatic channels (Ectasia).

It is also worth noting that the development of secondary lymphostasis of the lower extremities is negatively affected by chemical and physical factors, hormonal disorders, metabolism, excessive uncontrolled weight, infections, etc.

Lymphostasis of the lower extremities can be divided into unilateral and bilateral. However, there are cases when one half of the body is affected, that is, the upper and lower extremities are affected by the disease on the same side.

Lymphostasis of the lower extremities and conservative treatment

The outcome of conservative treatment largely depends on how quickly the patient seeks help from the onset of lymphedema. If a doctor is not consulted on time, the treatment process will be delayed and may be accompanied by complications. During conservative treatment, the following are used:

  • Manual lymphatic drainage massage
  • Compression pneumomassage
  • Using a limb bandage
  • Dietary nutrition
  • Therapeutic physical education
  • Compression knitwear (special sleeves, gloves, stockings, leggings, etc. with various types of knitting)
  • Pharmacological drugs
  • The specifics of treatment are determined only by a doctor

We use a treatment method that is not inferior in its effectiveness to the identical methods of the leading lymph clinics in Germany and Israel. If you are concerned about lymphostasis of the lower extremities, you can contact us. Along with pharmacological drugs and dietary nutrition, we use compression pneumomassage using Lymphopress devices, which are produced in Israel, if possible, if it does not harm the patient, – therapeutic exercise and necessarily – compression hosiery.
