Treatment of lymphostasis (lymphedema) of the extremities in the vascular pathology clinic, Kyiv

Lymphostasis requires accurate diagnosis and a systemic approach: it is important to determine the cause and stage of edema and select treatment for a specific case. In our clinic, vascular surgeon Serhiy Lirnyk treats lymphedema of the upper and lower extremities.

Experience and approach to treatment

  • vascular surgeon Serhiy Lirnyk, [35 years of practice] in the treatment of vascular pathology;
  • examination and determination of the degree of lymphedema before prescribing treatment;
  • treatment protocols correspond to the practice of leading lymph clinics in Germany and Israel;
  • hardware compression pneumomassage using Lymphopress equipment (Israel).

When is it appropriate to contact

The effectiveness of conservative treatment is higher in the early stages: until the edema has led to fibrous tissue changes, it is much easier for the limb to return to normal volume. Therefore, at the first persistent signs – edema, heaviness, increase in the volume of the arm or leg – it is worth undergoing an examination without delay.

What does treatment include?

The doctor creates an individual program, depending on the cause and stage of lymphedema:

  • manual lymphatic drainage massage;
  • Lymphopress pneumatic massage device;
  • selection of compression hosiery and bandaging;
  • dietary nutrition, therapeutic exercise, medical support;
  • according to indications – discussion of surgical methods.

We treat lymphostasis of the upper and lower extremities, including postmastectomy syndrome (PMS) after breast cancer treatment.
